Revenue Growth Rate

How much a company's revenue has grown compared to the same period a year earlier.

What it measures

Revenue growth rate is the percentage change in revenue against the same period a year prior. Straightforward on its own, but worth reading alongside profitability, a company can grow revenue quickly while losing money on every additional naira or dollar of it, growth alone isn't automatically good news.

Slowing revenue growth, even while still positive, is often the earliest visible sign of a company's momentum changing, well before it shows up anywhere else in the numbers.

A worked example

A company reported revenue of 4.2 billion last year and 4.62 billion this year. Revenue growth rate: (4,620,000,000 − 4,200,000,000) / 4,200,000,000 = 10%.

How Kobo & Cents uses it

Revenue growth rate rounds out the valuation and growth category. A slowing growth rate paired with an otherwise strong profitability picture is a genuinely common pattern the explainability panel is built to name directly, "revenue growth has slowed the last two quarters" is exactly this metric showing up in that sentence.
